Linux: Fedora Core 4 i386 32bit is ready for distribution, as is Debian GNU / Linux 3.1 release 0. Fedora Core 4 x64 DVD image is still downloading and will need to pass verification before being pronounced ready for distribution.

With regard to the new 14 disk Debian distribution, we will obviously need to increase our pricing, as well as distribution fees (double the number of CD's will result in the Post Office bumping our distributions up to a new category. We will update the web site accordingly on Monday 27th.

Linux: Debian 3.1 release 0a is available for download and SWD Tech is in the process of creating its disk set. However, at 14 CD's in the official distribution, and many packages being rerolled or completely new to the official distribution, we've elected to download from scatch. We anticipate being ready to distribute by / on Friday 24Jun05.

Fedora Core 4 has also been released very recently and we have queued the images for download as well. For the first time SWD Tech will also be offering the 32bit rescue CD, and as before the 64bit DVD. Again, we anticipate our disk set to be ready by / on Friday 24Jun05.

SWD Tech Solutions attends Miro Distribution, VoIP Conference

What is VoIP
Voice over Internet Protocol: The analogue audio stream (standard telephone line signal) is encoded into a digital format with possible compression and encapsulated in IP packets for transport over your LAN / WAN or the public internet.

What does this mean and what can it be used for?
For any Home PC User who has access to the internet through dial-up connection or local area network, this means Free local and international telephone calls, there are some requirements to be able to do this, the first is to make sure you have a soundcard with speakers and a microphone or a USB Phone , this allows you to recieve and send audio streams, second is to acquire a Internet Telephony software application e.g. Skype, MSN Messenger, Webphone, Yahoo and Netmeeting, most of these applications are free and can be downloaded from their respective websites

Linux: An updated version of Debian GNU / Linux (version 3.0 release 4) is now available. The updated pages are available now.

The Fedora Core 3 64bit DVD is now available!

Speed Services couriers have informed us that our domestic distributions are now subject to higher tariffs (now ~R64 as opposed to ~R54). In order to minimise the effects, we will continue to charge R55 for Speed Services dispatch and will absorb the R9 loss for the time being.

OpenOffice.org: Updated distribution CD, now contains the Afrikaans spelling dictionary.

Antivirus: NOD32 Antivirus licensing has changed slightly with the result that network and standalone licensing for multiple copies now have different pricing structures. We will be updating the NOD32 pages this week.
